We perform all fields of spine surgery including degenerative, deformity, tumor and traumasurgery. Co-operation between orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons is excellent. We also have a department for rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries. Fellows are welcome to join to the treatment of patients in outpatient clinics, meetings, ward rounds and also we courage them to scrub in to the surgeries. Hospital is a centre for emergency surgery and, therefore a fellow can also attend to the treatment of emergencies as spinal trauma and metastatic spinal cord compressions. Tampere University hospital is the second biggest university hospital in Finland. It is the only public hospital performing spinal surgery in Pirkanmaa district (500 000 inhabitants). In addition it is a tertiary-referral hospital for over one million inhabitants, which is the catchment area of for complicated surgery as deformities, trauma and tumors. Fellows are also welcome to train surgical techniques using specimens in Tampere Surgical Education Centre (https://www.pirha.fi/en/web/tamperesurgicalcentre/home).
